Death toll in Udhampur’s Ramnagar bus accident rises to 19, many others injured

Udhampur. At least nineteen passengers were killed and several others injured when a bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Ramnagar’s Kagorta village this morning.

Immediately after the incident, police, rescue teams and local people reached the spot and started the rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Udhampur-Reasi Range DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma said that there is a very sharp turn at the spot. Probably the driver lost control at a sharp turn. The vehicle hit a parapet and fell into a ditch.

On the question of there being more passengers in the vehicle, he said that it is a matter of investigation. He said teams of police, SDRF and district administration are present at the spot and carrying out rescue and relief operations. The injured are being taken to GMC Udhampur for immediate medical treatment.

Expressing grief over this incident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.” May God give them strength. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He said that I have directed the district administration, police, SDRF and health department to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep grief and said that the government stands strongly with the victims and their families in this hour of grief and all possible assistance is being provided to them.
