Death toll increases in Vedanta power plant accident, another worker dies
Shakti. The number of deaths in the horrific accident that took place on April 14 at the Vedanta Power Plant in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh is continuously increasing. West Bengal resident laborer Vishwajit Sahu, who was seriously burnt in the accident, died during treatment on Friday, after which the death toll has increased to 25. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the industrial safety system.
According to the information, Vishwajeet Sahu, who got burnt in the accident, was undergoing treatment at Shri Shankara Hospital in Raipur, where he was kept under observation. During treatment, he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest and despite all the efforts of the doctors, his life could not be saved.
It is noteworthy that on April 14, at Vedanta Power Plant in Sakti district, the pressure had increased abnormally due to excessive accumulation of fuel in the furnace of the boiler. Due to increasing pressure, the lower pipe of the boiler moved out of its place, causing a massive explosion.
The explosion was so severe that there was chaos on the spot and many workers got seriously injured due to it. The injured were immediately admitted to different hospitals, where the condition of many workers still remains critical.
After the accident, the police took major action and registered an FIR against a total of 19 people including Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Aggarwal, Plant Head Devendra Patel.
Offenses have been registered against all the accused under sections 106(1), 289 and 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code. The police is engaged in a detailed investigation of the case and the role of the responsible officers is also being investigated.
In view of the seriousness of the Vedanta Power Plant accident, the Commissioner of Bilaspur Division has been appointed as the investigating officer for a high-level investigation.

Bilaspur Division Commissioner Sunil Jain has said that the purpose of this investigation is to find out the real causes of the accident, fix the responsibility of the culprits and ensure prevention of such incidents in future.
