US Air Force’s KC-135 aircraft missing
Washington/Doha: A KC-135 aircraft of the US Air Force has gone missing amid deepening tension in the Middle East. This plane was flying in the sky over Qatar and suddenly disappeared from the radar. According to flight tracking platform Flight Radar 24, the plane issued a ‘7700’ distress signal during the flight, which indicates an emergency. The KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft is also called a flying gas station because it provides fuel to fighter planes in the air.
Citing data from Iran’s Flight Radar 24, the news of the disappearance of this plane was reported. The aircraft was deployed at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates and was taking part in military operations in the Middle East. According to tracking data, the plane kept circling in the air for some time and then started descending for landing, but after that contact was lost. The exact cause of the emergency is still unclear, and there has been no official confirmation linking the incident to any protest action. Let us tell you that earlier in the month of March, during the Iran war, the US Army had lost one of its KC-135 aircraft.
What is the KC-135 Stratotanker?
The KC-135 Stratotanker is a military aircraft with four turbofan engines (mounted under its wings) and is used for aerial refueling. The aircraft has a cargo deck above the refueling system, enabling it to carry both passengers and equipment. This aircraft is used to provide fuel to other aircraft flying in the air. This aircraft has been a part of US Air Force operations for a long time.
This aircraft helps fighters, bombers and other military aircraft to stay in the air longer and cover longer distances. It also provides support to US Navy, Marine and allied aircraft. Hundreds of KC-135 aircraft are in service with the US Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.
other missions
In addition to mid-air refueling, the KC-135 can also transport passengers and cargo, assist in air medical rescue missions, and transport injured or ill patients using specialized medical pallets. During air medical rescue missions, the crew may also include a medical team of flight nurses and technicians. Depending on the configuration of the aircraft, it can carry about 37,600 kg of luggage or several dozen passengers.
