Supreme Court appoints former Chief Justice Chandrachud as arbitrator in Sona Group Family Trust dispute

New Delhi . The Supreme Court has appointed former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud as arbitrator to resolve the ongoing dispute between Rani Kapoor and Priya Kapoor over the Sona Group Family Trust. A bench headed by Justice JB Pardiwala gave this order.

In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had advised to resolve this dispute through mutual negotiations. Today all the parties expressed their agreement on this suggestion of the court. In view of this, the court has taken this decision. The Supreme Court advised all the parties that they will neither make any statement in the media nor post anything on social media regarding this dispute. The Supreme Court will hear the matter further in August after the interim report of the mediator comes.

The court had said on April 27 that the 80-year-old party would be of no benefit in this long inheritance battle. The court had said that nothing is achieved by prolonging the case, that too at an older age.

In fact, Rani Kapoor, mother of late businessman Sanjay Kapoor, has demanded dissolution of the family RK Family Trust. Rani Kapoor has said in her petition that the circumstances of the formation of RK Family Trust and its management are under question.

The petition states that RK Family Trust was formed without the knowledge or consent of the petitioner. For this reason the petitioner was thrown out of the trust. All the assets of the trust belonged to him, but he was not even informed while forming the trust. At the time of formation of the Trust, he had suffered a heart stroke, due to which his health was poor. Rani Kapoor has said that the trust papers were signed without knowing its contents. His signatures were taken on some plain papers.
