Action on illegal sand mining inside Kosi embankment, JCB seized and fine of Rs 10 lakh
Supaul. The Mining Department has taken strict action against the ongoing illegal sand mining inside the Kosi embankment in Kishanpur block of the district. During a special operation conducted in Naubakhar village, a JCB machine was seized, while several tractors escaped from the spot.
Mining Inspector Mohd. In this raid led by Sehbaz Ahmed, the team observed that sand extraction was being done on a large scale inside the embankment. During the action, the JCB machine being used in illegal mining was seized and handed over to the local police station. According to the department, the registration number of the seized JCB is BR 01 GC 2249. If found involved in illegal mining, a financial penalty of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed on the vehicle owner under the Mining Act.
The vehicle will be released only after the fine amount is deposited.
The Mining Department said that the continuous illegal sand lifting inside the Kosi embankment can affect the safety of both the river and the embankment. There is a possibility of this danger increasing especially during the rainy and flood season.
Departmental officials say that regular campaign against illegal mining is going on in the district. Every month, action is being taken against many tractors and machines so that the sand mafia can be controlled.
Kishanpur police station incharge Gyan Ranjan Kumar said that the seized JCB has been kept safe in the police station premises and further legal process is going on.
