Jio reaches top-20 in global patent ranking, the only Indian tech company to do so
New Delhi. Jio has taken a big leap in the global patent ranking. Jio Platforms has reached the global top-20 in the latest Patent Cooperation Treaty PCT ranking of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It is worth noting that Jio has climbed 320 places to reach 20th position. Jio, the technology arm of Reliance Industries, is the only Indian tech innovator to make it to the global ranking.
With this achievement, the company has joined the group of big global tech companies like Samsung, Qualcomm, LG, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple and Microsoft.
Future technology is being prepared in the country itself
Jio has now become not just a telecom company but a big tech company creating new technologies. Currently Jio is working on such advanced technologies which can change our future. The company has filed patents for next generation technology. These include 5G, upcoming 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud platforms and computer-driven automation etc.
On this big success, Managing Director of Jio Platforms Limited, Akash M. Ambani said that it is a matter of pride for us that Jio is included in the world’s top-20 patent ranking. This is the result of our hard work over many years. Jio is continuously making innovations on new and modern technologies and this pace is going to increase further in the coming times.
Jio took a high jump
This success of Jio is also very special because at a time when the pace of patenting new technologies was less than 1 percent all over the world, Jio has taken a huge jump of 320 places in the ranking. This proves how strong Jio’s research and development team is at the global level.
If we talk about the figures, till March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms has filed a total of 6,817 patents. The company has proved its mettle not only in India but also in foreign markets. Of the total patents, 2,393 have been filed in India and 4,424 abroad. Of these, 1,009 patents have also been approved at the international level, which includes 538 from India and 471 from foreign markets.
Now India is making its own technology
Jio has made it clear that its success is not just on paper. The company has not only developed these modern technologies itself, but has also started using them commercially on a large scale. Currently Jio is working on 5G/6G radio, satellite communication and advanced agentic AI platforms like JioBrain.
This success of Jio is being seen as a big turning point for the entire technology sector of India. This shows that India is no longer a country that uses technologies created by the world, but is now creating its own original technologies and taking them to markets all over the world.
