Shock to AJSU leaders in Chief Minister’s residence siege case, revision petition rejected

Ranchi. The leaders of All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU) have received a big blow from the court in the Chief Minister’s residence siege case. The court of Additional Justice Amit Shekhar rejected the criminal revision petition filed by party leader Devsharan Bhagat and former minister Ramchandra Sahis. Both the leaders had challenged the trial court’s order rejecting their discharge petition, but the court refused to grant them any relief.

During the hearing, the court heard the arguments of both the parties and after perusing the available records, dismissed the revision petition. After this decision of the court, the ongoing criminal proceedings against both the leaders will continue.

Charges have also been framed against Devsharan Bhagat and Ramchandra Sahis in the case. Presently the hearing of this case is going on in the special court for MP-MLA cases located in Ranchi. After the latest order of the court, the hearing of the case will now proceed as per the predetermined procedure.

It is noteworthy that in this case, many leaders including AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahato, Giridih MP Chandraprakash Chaudhary, former minister Ramchandra Sahis, former MLA Shivpujan Mehta and AJSU state spokesperson Devsharan Bhagat have been made accused. An FIR was registered against them in Lalpur police station on various charges including obstructing government work, holding a rally without permission and affecting law and order.

This matter is related to the movement organized in the year 2021, in which AJSU Party had announced the Chief Minister’s residence gherao program for various demands including increasing the limit of reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC). As part of the program, a large number of party leaders and workers had gathered at Morhabadi ground and were preparing to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence in the form of a rally from there.

However, the police administration had stopped the rally near Morhabadi Maidan citing security and law and order. After this a tense situation arose between the agitators and the police. The administration alleged that the protesters violated the prescribed rules and tried to disrupt government work. On this basis, a case was registered against the concerned leaders and workers.
