Caracas. The death toll has risen to 4,118, while more than 16,740 people have been injured after the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24. Thousands of people have become homeless across the country and relief and rescue operations are continuing.

According to Turkish news agency Anadolu and other media reports, President of the National Assembly George Rodriguez, while giving information on the social media platform X, said that so far assistance has been provided to 86,794 affected families. He said that rescue teams have evacuated 6,462 people safely.

856 buildings have been damaged by the earthquake, while 190 buildings have completely collapsed. As part of the relief operations, officials have distributed 9,766 metric tonnes of food items and more than 1.39 crore liters of drinking water.

Also, medical assistance has been provided to 29,966 people. In La Guaira, the worst-hit coastal area, more than 800 buildings were damaged, while 190 buildings completely collapsed.

Meanwhile, the United Nations is raising nearly $300 million in relief and reconstruction funds for Venezuela. International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokeswoman Julie Kozak said the South American country is also in talks with the IMF to unlock its financial assets.

At the same time, 30,076 government employees, 29,843 volunteers and 3,454 international rescue workers are engaged in the relief and rescue operation. 89 temporary relief camps have been set up for the homeless people.

According to officials, 1,171 aftershocks have been recorded so far since the initial earthquakes. There was a gap of just 39 seconds between two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred on June 24, causing widespread devastation. After this, a large-scale humanitarian aid campaign was started at the national and international level.
