FIH Youth Hockey 5s Asian Championships: Indian men’s and women’s teams continue their winning streak

Muscat, Oman). The Indian sub-junior women’s and men’s teams continue their impressive performance at the FIH Youth Hockey 5s Asian Championship 2026.

In the elite pool matches played on Thursday, the Indian women’s team thrashed Kazakhstan 10-0, while the men’s team continued its winning streak by defeating Bangladesh 8-3.

In the women’s category, India showed aggressive play from the beginning. Nausheen Naaz gave India a 2-0 lead by scoring two consecutive goals in the very first minute of the match.

The Indian team remained ahead with this lead till the first half, but in the second half, it increased the pace of the game and scored eight more goals, completely eliminating Kazakhstan from the competition.

‘Player of the Match’ Sandeepa Kumari completed a hat-trick by scoring goals in the 11th, 16th and 18th minutes. Nausheen Naaz also performed brilliantly and scored four goals in the 1st, 15th and 20th minutes.

Apart from this, Kiran Ekka (15th), Neelam Topno (17th) and Pushpa Manjhi (19th) also scored goals to ensure India’s one-sided victory.

In the men’s category, there was a close contest between India and Bangladesh in the first half. Indian captain and ‘Player of the Match’ Ketan Kushwaha scored two goals in the fourth and eighth minutes, while Shahrukh Ali scored a goal in the third minute to give India a 3-2 lead. For Bangladesh, Mohammad Hosein (6th) and Sohrab Soton (8th minute) kept the match exciting by scoring goals.

The Indian team completely dominated in the second half. Ketan Kushwaha completed his four-goal achievement by scoring two more goals in the 12th and 15th minutes.

Romit Pal (13th), Prahlad Rajbhar (14th) and Rahul Yadav (18th) also scored one goal each. For Bangladesh, Sohrab Soton scored his second goal in the 11th minute, but could not save the team from defeat.

Now the Indian women’s team will face China and Uzbekistan in their next matches, while the men’s team will take the field against Oman and Pakistan on July 24. It is noteworthy that this competition is also the Asian qualifier for the first FIH Youth Hockey 5s World Cup.
