Washington. US defense headquarters Pentagon had to update the database of casualties and injured soldiers in the Iran war after sharp criticism.

On Saturday, it added the names of 140 more injured soldiers and four soldiers killed in Iranian attacks last week. According to the updated database, 18 soldiers have been killed and 624 soldiers have been injured since the war against Iran began on February 28.

In the latest change, the Pentagon has added a new tracking category “overseas operations” to the Defense Casualty Analysis System for dead and injured troops, CNN and CBS News reported.

Last week, the Pentagon faced criticism from the media and lawmakers. On Thursday, 12 Democratic lawmakers from the Senate Armed Services Committee wrote a letter to Defense Minister Pete Hegseth seeking answers in this regard.

Acting Defense Department press secretary Joel Valdez told The Post on Thursday that the correct numbers were not visible due to a temporary disruption in data on the website.

The New York Times was the first to reveal the database error in this regard. Pentagon’s chief spokesperson Shawn Parnell gave clarification on this in a statement shared on Twitter on Thursday.

He attributed this to temporary data disruption caused by site errors in the Defense Casualty Analysis System. Parnell also criticized the New York Times.
