Karisma Kapoor should present her divorce papers: Supreme Court
Delhi: After the demise of industrialist Sanjay Kapoor, the ongoing controversy regarding his will is getting deeper. In the latest development, the high-profile legal battle has reportedly reached the Supreme Court. According to new reports, Sanjay Kapoor’s third wife Priya Kapoor has moved the Supreme Court of India, demanding access to confidential documents related to the 2016 divorce proceedings between Sanjay Kapoor and Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. The new move marks another dramatic twist in an already complex and high-stakes inheritance dispute. Serious allegations like fake will, digital tracking, manipulation in metadata and WhatsApp chats have already come to light in this case.
Priya Kapoor reached Supreme Court for divorce record
According to ANI report, Priya Kapoor has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking certified copies of all the documents related to the divorce proceedings between Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor in 2016. On this petition, Justice A. S. A bench headed by Chandurkar will hear the matter. The court has decided that Karisma Kapoor will have to present her divorce papers in the court. ANI has been quoted as saying that Priya Kapoor has made this demand with the aim of verifying the information related to the financial agreement between the former couple and the custody arrangement of the children. It is believed that these details can play an important role in the current inheritance dispute.
Children raised serious questions on the will
The dispute regarding Sanjay Kapoor’s property is becoming increasingly serious. Karisma Kapoor along with her children Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor have raised questions over the electronic evidence related to the execution of their father’s will. According to reports, both the children have pointed out alleged discrepancies in the digital records submitted by Priya Kapoor in the Delhi High Court. They claim that on March 21, 2025, the day the disputed will was claimed to be signed, Priya Kapoor’s mobile phone was showing the location as New Delhi, while she had said in her affidavit that she was present in Gurugram on that day. According to the children, on the same day Sanjay Kapoor was also in Delhi and not in Gurugram as indicated in the documents attached to the will. Apart from this, it has also been claimed that on the same day, Karisma Kapoor was in contact with Sanjay Kapoor through WhatsApp regarding the Portuguese citizenship of the children, which has raised more questions regarding the activities of that day.
Demand for criminal action
According to NDTV report, Sanjay Kapoor’s children have also demanded initiation of criminal proceedings against Priya Kapoor. He has requested the court to apply sections 338 and 340 of the Indian Judicial Code. The children allege that a forged and fabricated will was prepared with the aim of depriving them of their legitimate inheritance.
Sanjay Kapoor’s death and property dispute
It is noteworthy that Sanjay Kapoor, well-known industrialist and former husband of Karisma Kapoor, died allegedly of a heart attack during a polo match in England on June 12, 2025. He left behind a huge net worth of around ₹30000 crore, which includes major stake in Sona Comstar and other business ventures. Following his death, several family members, including third wife Priya Kapoor, his children with Karisma Kapoor, his mother Rani Kapoor and his sister, became embroiled in a complex and high-profile legal battle.
allegations on disputed will
At the center of the legal battle is a will dated March 21, 2025, in which Sanjay Kapoor reportedly bequeathed most of his personal property to Priya Kapoor. However, the children have challenged the authenticity of this document and called it fake. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for the children, told the court that the metadata of the will file indicated that it was drafted and modified not on Sanjay Kapoor’s computer, but on some other computer. Apart from this, errors like wrong address, misspelling of names and lack of property details have also been pointed out in the document. Now that Priya Kapoor’s petition has reached the Supreme Court, the matter seems to be heading towards more legal complications. A hearing is expected from the Supreme Court soon, but at the moment it is clear that this fight for Sanjay Kapoor’s legacy is not going to stop yet.
