US President Donald Trump said that at present only the US Navy has control over the Strait of Hormuz.
“Right now, only the US Navy has control over the Strait of Hormuz. Our blockade is impregnable. It is like a wall of steel. We have 100% (100 percent) control over this Strait,” he said during an event at the White House.
According to the Gulf News report, the President said, “Iran has become completely bankrupt due to the war. It is not able to pay salaries to the soldiers. The inflation rate there is 300%.
The US has removed mines from the strait. The strait is now open to non-Iranian ships. Ships under the blockade are not allowed to enter Iranian ports. Other shipping continues.”
Importantly, the US blockade was first imposed in April 2026. It was temporarily lifted in mid-June under an interim agreement. It was reimposed in mid-July following attacks on ships.
Meanwhile, US Central Command has reported deploying more than 20 warships to the region and diverting dozens of commercial vessels (about 55 according to recent data) by early August.
The command said the Strait of Hormuz remains an important and sensitive route for global energy supplies. Trump’s latest comments come amid a US naval blockade targeting maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas. Iran has challenged its control of the waterway and has placed a condition on its full reopening.
