Mumbai Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has once again taken major action regarding violation of food safety rules. The food license of a unit of Blinkit in Mumbai has been suspended with immediate effect. At the same time, investigation of an outlet of Reliance Retail has also been started.
According to FDA officials, several serious deficiencies related to cleanliness were found during the inspection on August 7 at the Blinkit facility located at Sarvodaya Bhawan in Malad. During investigation, a lot of filth and a large number of cockroaches were found in the premises. Apart from this, the food items were not stored properly and the cold storage conditions were also not found satisfactory.
During inspection, expired and damaged packets were also found. Officials also noted lack of documents related to pest control, sanitation and medical records of employees. A large number of cockroaches were also found in the vegetable and fruit storage area.
In view of serious violations of food safety standards, FDA suspended the license of Blinkit unit under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety Act. During the period of suspension, there will be a ban on activities related to sale, distribution and food business from the concerned unit.
Took samples of Kaju Katli from Reliance Retail Outlet
During the same action, FDA officials also took samples of Kaju Katli from an outlet of Reliance Retail. Officials had received a complaint that fungus and live insects were found in the sweets. After this, about 54 boxes of Kaju Katli were seized and their samples were sent to the food laboratory for testing.
This complaint was related to Lakshmi Narayan brand Kaju Katli being sold in the Reliance Retail Outlet located at ARD Cinema Mall in Buldhana district. On August 8, 2026, customers complained about the presence of fungus and live insects in the sweets. As soon as the complaint was received, the FDA team reached the spot and investigated. According to the FDA, the lab report is now awaited. Based on the report, further action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
