New Delhi. There has been a sharp increase in direct tax collection in the country in the financial year 2026-27. In the current financial year till August 10, net direct tax collection increased by 23.09 per cent year-on-year to Rs 8.11 lakh crore.
According to Income Tax Department data, net corporate tax collection during this period has increased by 19.83 percent to about Rs 2.70 lakh crore. Non-corporate tax collections, including personal income tax, increased by 23 per cent to Rs 5.07 lakh crore. According to the department, during this period, revenue from STT, a tax on securities transactions, increased by 51 percent to Rs 33,824 crore.
Similarly, between April 1 and August 10, tax refunds worth Rs 1.43 lakh crore were issued, which is 3.8 percent more than the same period a year ago.
According to the Income Tax Department, gross direct tax collection has increased by 19.75 percent to about Rs 9.55 lakh crore. This includes corporate tax, personal income tax and STT.
The Income Tax Department said that the figures of gross direct tax (DT) collections, refunds and net direct tax (DT) collections for the current financial year 2026-27 till August 10 have been released.
The government has set a target of raising Rs 26.97 lakh crore from direct taxes in the budget for the current financial year. This is about 15 percent more than the Rs 23.40 lakh crore tax revenue collected in financial year 2025-26.
