Panshul told that he started preparing for NEET from class 8 itself. He thoroughly read NCERT books for Biology and Chemistry. Along with this, he also used the study material provided by his coaching institute.
First clear the concepts, then practice the questions.
According to Panshul, in the initial phase of preparation, he focused most on understanding the concepts. When the concepts became strong then they started giving sample papers and mock tests. He also solved JEE questions to gain experience with different types of competitive questions. He believes that this helped in understanding difficult and different pattern questions.
Emphasis on daily mock test before NEET
A few months before the exam, Panshul tried to give mock tests almost every day. According to him, mock tests help in finding out which chapters are weak and what kind of small mistakes are being made during the examination. Mock tests also develop time management and the ability to perform better under exam pressure. Panshul said,
‘Mock tests help in identifying weak chapters, small mistakes and time management deficiencies. It also helps in preparing for the exam environment. Analyzing the test is more important than giving it.
Panshul’s 6 special tips to crack NEET
Panshul has given six important tips for students preparing for NEET. He says that the most important thing in preparation is consistency.
Make a separate Error Notebook for each subject: Write the questions that go wrong or have frequent mistakes in a separate notebook. Make a separate Error Notebook for each subject and revise the mistakes written in it from time to time.
Think about the question as you read: Don’t just try to memorize a chapter as you read it. Also think about what kind of questions can be asked from that topic in the exam. This improves the ability to understand and solve questions.
Test yourself by closing the book: After reading a chapter, close the book and try to remember the diagrams, formulas and important information without looking at it. This shows how much has actually been missed.
Give priority to revision over new reading: Don’t try to read and memorize everything. Revise again and again what you have read. According to Panshul, it is more important to strengthen the old topics rather than continuously adding new material.
Focus on weak topics instead of strong chapters: Instead of spending time again and again on the chapters in which you already have a good grip, give priority to the weak chapters. With this, the shortcomings in preparation can be removed.
Test and analyze more than watching lectures: Panshul advised students not to depend only on watching lectures continuously. Give as many tests as possible and analyze them properly. This helps in identifying mistakes and improving the exam strategy.
Panshul also advised NEET aspirants to remain consistent in their preparation. Frequent changing of books, strategies and teachers should be avoided. Along with this, attention should be paid to speed and accuracy i.e. ability to give quick and correct answers and regular revision of the studied topics should be done. Panshul is an alumnus of Allen Career Institute, Faridabad.
