Stampede in Ashok Dham temple of Lakhisarai, seven devotees died, more than 12 injured

At least seven devotees died in a stampede outside the temple in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district. More than 12 people have been injured in this incident, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The incident happened on the way from Ashok Dham station to the temple. On the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan, a large number of devotees had gathered at the Ashok Dham temple to offer prayers and perform rituals.

According to initial information, an electric pole along with the wire had fallen on this route during the night. A rumor spread among the devotees that a pillar had been electrocuted. Due to this, people got scared and started running in different directions in an attempt to escape.

After this a stampede broke out, in which many devotees got trapped and got buried under each other. Local people and other devotees immediately started efforts to save the people trapped in the crowd. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and administrative officials reached the spot. Rescue operations were started and arrangements were made to take the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

So far, information about the death of at least seven devotees has come to light. It was told that all the dead were women. There is also a fear that the death toll will increase.

Ashok Dham Temple is also known as Shri Indradamneshwar Mahadev Temple. There is a huge Shivalinga here, which was found during excavation. A large number of devotees visit the temple especially during the holy month of Saavan.

The month of Saavan has spiritual significance in Hinduism and is considered one of the most sacred times of the year. Shravan, also known as Sawan, usually falls in July and August. During Sawan, devotees perform puja and various rituals to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Many devotees observe fast in this month and devote themselves to devotion and prayer.
