Rajasthan urban body elections: State Election Commission holds meeting with political parties

To review the preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rajasthan State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh in the conference room of the State Election Commission located in the Government Secretariat complex on Friday.

During the meeting, the Commission held a detailed discussion on the preparations and arrangements being made to conduct the elections in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.

Representatives of political parties were briefed about key aspects of urban local body elections (including important provisions, election schedule, voter list, nomination process, voting arrangements, model code of conduct and election expenditure).

The Commission invited suggestions and sought views from representatives of political parties on measures to ensure smooth conduct of the election process.

State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh said that cooperation of all political parties is necessary to ensure free and fair elections.

Singh appealed to all political parties to actively contribute to strengthening the democratic process by following election related rules and guidelines.

He laid special emphasis on effective compliance with the Model Code of Conduct and clarified that all political parties and candidates should strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Commission as well as the applicable legal provisions governing the election process.

Commission Secretary Rajesh Verma, senior officials of the State Election Commission, and representatives of various recognized political parties were present in the meeting.

Elections for 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan were declared at 4 pm on Wednesday. The State Election Commission will conduct elections in cities in two phases.

The first phase of voting will be held on September 9 and the second phase of voting will be held on September 11, the results of which will be declared on September 14. For the first time in the history of Rajasthan, elections are being held simultaneously in all urban local bodies.
