Surajpur. On Sunday, Chowki Revati police has arrested another accused from Bihar in the case of cheating of Rs 8 lakh 50 thousand by promising to double the amount on investing in share currency.
The accused has been identified as Shahzad Ansari, father late. Yusuf Ansari aged 29 years is resident of Shahi Sarai, Thana Kudra, District Kaimur, Bihar. Two accused have already been arrested in the case, while the search for another absconding accused is going on.
According to the information, Sunil Pandey, resident of village Govardhanpur, had lodged a report at Chowki Revati on 27 February 2023 that three persons reached his house in a Swift Dezire car and fraudulently absconded with Rs 8 lakh 50 thousand.
On the report, a case was registered under crime number 35/2023 under sections 420, 120B, 34 IPC. Investigation revealed that on February 17, 2023, the applicant was sitting at his grocery shop. Meanwhile, three persons reached there in Swift Dezire car and talked to him while purchasing goods.
One of the accused, giving his name as Akash, said that they work in share currency and on investing money in it, the amount doubles.
Being persuaded by the accused, the applicant first gave Rs 10,000. The next day the accused returned Rs 20,000 to him. This made the applicant trust him. After this, the accused promised him that if he invested up to Rs 10 lakh, the amount would double in two to four days.
Through continuous phone conversation, the accused took the applicant into confidence and asked him to arrange for Rs 8 lakh 50 thousand. On getting information about the arrangement of the money, the accused reached his shop on 27 February 2023 and took Rs 8 lakh 50 thousand.
In return, the accused gave the applicant a packet sealed in khaki colored plastic and told that it contained Rs 17 lakh. He said that he would come later and take Rs 3 lakh from it and asked not to open the packet till then.
After the accused left, when their mobiles were found switched off, the applicant opened the packet and checked. In it, bundles of plain paper in the shape of notes were made and packed in khaki colored paper. After this he came to know of the fraud.
Network revealed by checking mobile number
When the police took the investigation forward through technical means, the mobile number used by the accused was found to be in the name of a person from Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Amresh Mishra, director of Raj Communication, Nagwa, Varanasi, had issued two SIMs in the name of the person concerned using his Aadhar card and photo. He had kept one of these SIMs with himself.
According to police investigation, Amresh Mishra had given the said SIM to Rajesh Singh for Rs 1500 as part of a criminal conspiracy, knowing that it would be used in criminal activity.
Rajesh Singh, along with his two other associates, defrauded the applicant of Rs 8 lakh 50 thousand using the same mobile number. After the incident, the SIM and the mobile used in the incident were broken and thrown away.
Two accused have already been arrested
In this case, the police had earlier arrested Amresh Mishra, father Madan Mishra, age 40, resident of Sirgovardhanpur, Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and Rajesh Singh, father Shivdular Singh, age 34 years, resident of Bhagwanpur, Police Station Lanka, Varanasi Uttar Pradesh.
The car used in the incident was also seized from their possession. Both of them had admitted to carrying out the crime along with their associates.
Shahzad was caught in raid in Bihar
Surajpur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Kumar Patel had given instructions to outpost in-charge Revati to arrest the absconding accused in old pending cases. Under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Yogesh Dewangan and SDOP Pratappur Anoop Ekka, the police team was busy searching for the accused.
Meanwhile, the police received information that the accused in the case, Shahzad, was present in Kaimur, Bihar. Based on the information, the police team left for Bihar and raided Kaimur and arrested Shahzad Ansari and brought him to Surajpur.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to committing the crime along with his associates, after which he was arrested.
Another accused in the case is still absconding, whom the police is continuously investigating. Outpost in-charge Revati Santosh Singh, head constable Shiv Rajwade, constable Manroop Pankra and Ashok Rajwade played an active role in the action.
