Kathmandu. There is an outcry due to flood in Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa district of Nepal. Bhotekoshi, which became worse due to the flood that came from Tibet on Wednesday morning, has swallowed immense people and wealth. So far, 389 bodies have been recovered from the flood affected areas and 977 people are still missing. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) gave this information in a new post (sixth report) released on Thursday late night.
The NDRRMA said the figures are based on information received from district administration offices and national emergency operations centers. According to the report, the 977 people reported missing include 28 Nepal Police personnel, 45 Nepal Army personnel, 13 Armed Police Force Nepal personnel, 15 Custom Office employees and four Immigration Office employees. The missing include 517 foreign nationals and 127 Nepalese nationals living abroad. These people had come to visit Nepal. The report also gives information about 73 people being injured. According to another report, three people died during this period in Tibet.
Nepal Police earlier said that maximum bodies of 108 people have been recovered, 62 in Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, 15 in West Nawalparasi and 27 in Dhading, 20 in Gorkha, 12 in Nuwakot, 9 in Tanahun and 17 in Rasuwa. 52 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. 26 persons are being treated at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, 20 at Trauma Centre, two at Veer Hospital, two at Narbhik Hospital, one at Manmohan Hospital and one at Virendra Sainik Hospital.
According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of 13,295 security personnel have been deployed in search, rescue and relief operations. These include 7,250 Nepal Police personnel, 4,200 Nepal Army personnel and 1,845 Armed Police Force Nepal personnel. 15 helicopters are involved in the rescue operation. Of these, six are helicopters of Nepal Army and nine are of private sector.
The NDRRMA said 1,976 people had been rescued by helicopters. The report said 12 emergency coordination teams have been deployed to organize search and rescue, emergency health services, communications, power restoration, road network operations, relief distribution, international assistance and information management. The roads are being repaired. The road in Devighat has been repaired. Machinery is busy preparing the road in Galchi-Bidur-Trishuli and Baireni-Mughlin.
Nepal is struggling with the impact of massive floods that hit Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning. After visiting flood-hit Nuwakot, Prime Minister Balendra Shah said that the situation remains challenging and the entire government machinery is working at full capacity. “The situation is still challenging. All government mechanisms are working at full capacity. Our first priority right now is to save the life of every citizen, search and rescue the missing, treat the injured and provide immediate relief to the affected families,” Shah said on Facebook. The Prime Minister said that 13,295 security personnel from Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Forces have been deployed for search and rescue operations.
In Nepal, a lake has formed due to the stoppage of the flow of the Lende river in the coastal area about 18 kilometers above the Rasuwagadhi border. It is spread over approximately 0.11 square kilometers. Due to this, the danger of flood has started looming again. The Government of Nepal has urged all concerned parties in the low-lying coastal areas to take necessary precautions and remain fully alert. Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has released the names of 63 Indian nationals working in the Trishuli-I project in Nepal who have been rescued amid the floods. “Update on Indian nationals rescued in Nepal,” ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said while sharing the names on Twitter on Thursday. “Please see the names of 63 Indian citizens working in the Trishuli-I project in Nepal who have been rescued,” Jaiswal said.
These names were released after the Ministry of External Affairs said in its 8 pm update that 63 employees of the Trishuli-I project and 21 people from Tamil Nadu have been rescued. These 21 citizens of Tamil Nadu had gone to Nepal for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that efforts are underway to trace the location of Indian citizens who cannot be contacted and to ensure their safety.
