Vice President will launch Mission Colorful Fish 2031 in Lakshadweep

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will on Monday release the strategic action plan “Mission Colorful Fish 2031” for the expansion of ornamental fish farming in Lakshadweep. According to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, this program will be organized by the Ministry in Agatti, Lakshadweep. This strategic action plan will provide a uniform framework for scientific management, bio-security, high quality and regulatory compliance across the entire value chain of ornamental fisheries.

The Central Government is adopting a cluster-based approach to promote integrated and value chain-based development in the fisheries sector. In line with this, Lakshadweep has been notified as a dedicated seaweed cluster to promote seaweed cultivation, processing, value addition and market linkages.

This will ensure uniformity in procedures across the country and encourage adoption of best practices. These initiatives will also help in strengthening the capacities of stakeholders, improving product quality and bio-safety standards, facilitating certification and market access.

On this occasion, Minister of State of the Ministry Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Minister of State Prof. SP Singh Baghel and Administrator of Lakshadweep Prafulla Khoda Patel, representatives of the Fisheries Department of the Government, Lakshadweep Government, Fisheries Cluster, concerned ministries and departments and many fishermen and fishermen will be present.
