New Delhi. Janmashtami was a day of relief for the domestic stock market which was facing decline for four consecutive trading days.
Despite heavy profit booking in the second session of the day, the stock market managed to end the trading on a strong note today. Today’s business also started on a strong note.
Shortly after the market opened, buyers started buying, with the support of which the movement of both Sensex and Nifty indices increased further.
However, as selling started in the second session of the day, both these indices fell from their higher levels. After the entire day’s trading, Sensex closed with a gain of 0.48 percent and Nifty closed with a gain of 0.10 percent.
Despite the strength of the market, investors today suffered a loss of about Rs 41 thousand crore due to the selling of midcap shares.
BSE Sensex opened today at 76,657.02 with a gain of 504.16 points or 0.66 percent. Due to selling pressure in the first 20 minutes of trading, the position of this index weakened a bit, but after this the movement of this index increased due to the support of buying.
With the support of continuous buying, the Sensex jumped by 730.28 points or 0.96 percent to reach the level of 76,883.14 points just before 12 noon.
However, the index could not maintain its strength in the second session of the day. As profit booking started in the market, the movement of this index started weakening.
Due to continuous selling of shares, Sensex slipped 367.71 points from the day’s high and closed at 76,515.43 points with a gain of 362.57 points or 0.48 percent.
Like Sensex, NSE’s Nifty jumped 37.45 points or 0.16 percent today and started trading at 23,910.90 points.
After the market opened, selling pressure remained for some time, but after this buyers became active and started buying.
With the support of buying, shortly after 11:30 pm, Nifty reached the level of 24,005.75 points with a rise of 132.30 points or 0.55 percent.
During the second session of the day, there was selling pressure in the market in order to book profits, due to which the movement of this index also started weakening.
Due to continuous selling, shortly before the end of today’s trading, this index fell by about 110 points from the upper level to the level of 23,895.85 points.
After the whole day’s trading, Nifty closed at 23,897.70 points with a slight gain of 24.25 points or 0.10 percent.
Today, there was heavy buying of metal sector shares during the day’s trading. BSE metal index closed with a gain of 1.42 percent on the support of buying.
Similarly, Oil & Gas, Public Sector Enterprise, FMCG and Consumer Durable indices also closed strongly in the green. On the other hand, shares of realty, IT and pharmaceutical sectors continued to be sold today.
Apart from this, Banking, Automobile and Capital Goods indices also closed in the red with weakness. There was mixed trading in the broad market today.
Nifty Midcap index closed with a weakness of 0.25 percent. On the other hand, the Smallcap index ended today’s trading 0.22 per cent higher.
Today, due to pressure on midcap shares in the stock market, the wealth of stock market investors reduced by more than Rs 40 thousand crore. The market capitalization of BSE listed companies declined to Rs 488.31 lakh crore (provisional) after today’s trading.
Their market capitalization on the last trading day i.e. Thursday was Rs 488.72 lakh crore. In this way, investors suffered a loss of about Rs 41 thousand crore from today’s trading.
During the day’s trading today, there was active trading in 3,241 shares in NSE. Of these, 1,808 shares closed in the green mark after earning profit and 1,433 shares closed in the red mark after incurring a loss.
Similarly, out of 30 shares included in Sensex, 19 shares closed with gains and 11 shares closed with decline. Whereas out of 50 shares included in Nifty, 22 shares closed in green mark and 28 shares closed in red mark.
After buying and selling throughout the day, among the big stocks of the stock market, SBI Life Insurance joined the list of today’s top 5 gainers with a gain of 3.50 percent, Tata Steel by 2.49 percent, HDFC Life by 2.42 percent, Reliance Industries by 1.50 percent and Trent Limited by 1.33 percent.
On the other hand, HCL Technology 1.94 percent, Bharti Airtel 1.55 percent, Maruti Suzuki 1.27 percent, Coal India 1.12 percent and Bajaj Finserv 1.11 percent joined the list of today’s top 5 losers.
