The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal has reached 1,355. Nearly 5,000 people are still reported missing or unaccounted for as search, rescue and relief operations are still ongoing.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the recovered remains also include various parts of the human body. So far, 98 dead bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. Authority spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 169 bodies have been recovered from Rasuwa, 197 from Nuwakot, 70 from Dhading, 75 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 363 from Chitwan, 222 from Nawalparasi East and 221 from Nawalparasi West.
He said that after the flood, about 4,996 people were reported missing or could not be traced. As per the latest records, details of about 1,967 missing people in one affected area and about 2,340 people in Nuwakot have been updated. According to the authority, the missing people include about 100 security personnel and government employees and about 589 foreign nationals. Meanwhile, 13,396 people stranded due to floods have been rescued safely so far.
According to Nepal Electricity Authority, 6,672 people injured in the floods have been treated. Of these, 323 people are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals, while 228 people have been discharged from the hospital and sent home. Currently 3,533 flood affected people are living in 39 holding centres. According to the authority, 669 of these people are in Rasuwa, 2,651 in Nuwakot and 213 in Dhading.
A total of 21,402 security personnel have been deployed for search and rescue, relief distribution and security arrangements in the flood affected areas. These include 9,287 Nepali Army, 7,912 Nepal Police and 4,203 Armed Police Forces personnel.
