Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has sought cooperation from Germany for restoration, rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas affected by the recent floods.
In a bilateral ‘sideline’ meeting with Germany’s Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reim Alabali Radovan at the UN Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Minister Khanal stressed the need for additional investment in post-disaster reconstruction as well as climate-resilience, pre-disaster preparedness and capacity development.
Foreign Minister Khanal appreciated the important cooperation being provided by Germany for a long time in the development process of Nepal. He said that it is the shared responsibility of the entire international community to face the challenges posed by climate change.
Describing the recent devastating disaster in Nepal as a global common challenge, Radovan said that Germany is committed to providing financial and humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
Various aspects of bilateral relations between Nepal and Germany were discussed in the meeting. Both sides also expressed their commitment to further strengthen and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the coming days.
