New Delhi/The Hague. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday that India and the US have completed most of the negotiations on the proposed bilateral trade agreement. Now this agreement is being finalized.
Goyal, who is on a two-day official visit to Netherlands, said this while talking about the India-US trade agreement here.
Addressing the India-Netherlands Business Forum, he said that India has signed nine free trade agreements in the last four and a half years.
The meeting with Helene Herbert, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands, discussed further deepening of cooperation in the areas of semiconductors, green hydrogen, clean energy transition, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing.
The Union Minister said that apart from this, discussions were also held on taking advantage of India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to increase trade, create strong supply chains and open new development opportunities for both the countries.
India and the US had in February announced the finalization of the framework for the first phase of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA). However, changes in the tariff landscape in the US have required further negotiations on the agreement.
