New Delhi. The Supreme Court has disposed of all the petitions (November 2) in the case of alleged theft of money offered by devotees at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. The court has allowed the petitioners to present their case during the hearing in the lower court and cooperate in the judicial process. However, the Supreme Court clarified that it has not given any opinion regarding the veracity of the allegations made in the case. Now the further hearing of the case will take place in the lower court.
SIT has filed chargesheet
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Central Government, told the court that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has filed a chargesheet in the lower court of Ayodhya. The Supreme Court also took cognizance of this.
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had told the court that some officials were accused of keeping the money with themselves while counting the amount of offerings in the temple. The Solicitor General also said that some people involved in counting the amount allegedly invested the amount or deposited it in their bank accounts.
Petitioners got permission to participate in the hearing
The Supreme Court has given freedom to the petitioners to present their views in the local court during the hearing of the case and assist in the proceedings. With this, all the pending petitions related to this case were disposed of.
The court also made it clear that its order should not be seen as confirming or rejecting the allegations. Who played a role in the case and how true the allegations are will now be determined on the basis of evidence during the trial in the lower court.
New petition regarding Ram temple land also rejected
During this time, the Supreme Court also refused to consider another new petition. The petition sought to clarify whether the Ram temple was constructed on the same land as determined under the judgment in the Ayodhya land dispute. The court refused to hear this petition.
