Azam Khan challenges ED's arrest in Supreme Court

New Delhi. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition challenging the arrest of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). On Monday, lawyer Nizam Pasha, appearing on behalf of Azam Khan, mentioned the petition before the bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and demanded immediate hearing. The court refused to hold the hearing immediately and ordered the hearing this week.

During the Mentioning, initially the Court asked Nizam Pasha to approach the High Court. However, it was later assured to list the matter sometime this week.

Azam Khan has been arrested by ED in a new case of money laundering. This arrest has been challenged in Azam Khan’s petition. Nizam Pasha told the court that Azam Khan was arrested 40 minutes after his release from jail on October 29 in the two PAN card cases. The petition has also sought to quash the trial court’s order of November 1, under which he was sent to judicial custody. In the petition, an appeal has also been made to release Azam Khan from custody for the time being.
