The Galle Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka hosted its 50th Test match since the first was played here in 1998, thus becoming the first ground in Asia to host this many Test matches. Karachi’s National Stadium in Pakistan is nearing this milestone, having so far hosted 47 Test matches since its opening match in 1955.

Devdutt Padikkal in Galle became the latest to join this small group of players — scoring a career-best 167. Incidentally, Vinod Kambli is the only other left-handed Indian at No. 3 to register a three-figure score against Sri Lanka in Tests. He has the distinction of doing so twice with scores of 125 and 120 during the 1993 series at Sinhalese Sports Ground and at Saravanamuttu, respectively.
