Pakistan qualified for the women’s cricket semifinal at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Thailand by three wickets in its quarterfinal clash at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, on the outskirts of Nagoya.
Pakistan will face the winner of Friday’s quarterfinal between Sri Lanka and Malaysia in the last four.
The contest was reduced to an 11-overs-a-side game after rain interrupted play.
Batting first, Thailand posted 91/4. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored with 49 off 38 balls, while Pakistan captain Fatima Sana took two wickets.
In the chase, Pakistan made a steady start as openers Gull Feroza and Shawaal Zulfiqar stitched together a 36-run partnership.
However, after the openers departed, wickets fell at regular intervals as Thailand’s bowlers kept the pressure on.
Pakistan was reduced to 70/5 when Fatima, its best batter, fell in the eighth over for 21 off 13 balls, leaving the side in a precarious position.
However, Tuba Hassan, Eman Naseer and Umm-e-Hani held their nerve to guide Pakistan over the line with two balls to spare.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh advanced to the semifinal after its quarterfinal against China was abandoned due to rain.
