Arvind Kejriwal reacts to America’s 100% tariff bomb, accuses Modi government of handing over the country’s reins to Trump

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The US Senate has passed a bill imposing 100% tariffs on five countries, including India, by a majority of 86-11. This bill has heated up the country’s political landscape. Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has criticized the central government in a post on X.

In a post on social media X, Arvind Kejriwal wrote, “After mortgaging the country to America, after serving as a slave to Trump, and after insulting India, PM Modi has brought this to the country. Today, Trump interferes in every decision, big or small, in the country. PM Modi accepts everything Trump says, whether right or wrong, and Trump takes decisions against India in every area.”

The US Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill aimed at punishing Russia and its major petroleum product buyers, such as China and India. The bill claims that such trade with Russia is contributing to the continuation of the Ukraine war.

The Senate approved the bill, titled the “Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026,” by a vote of 86 to 11. This bill authorizes US President Donald Trump to impose 100 percent tariffs on goods coming from the five largest importers of oil and gas from Russia.

China, India, Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Slovakia are the five largest importers of oil and gas from Russia. In addition to sanctions on Russia, the bill also provides for extending the 1996 Iran Sanctions Act until 2031.

Under this law, punitive action is taken against companies investing in Iran’s energy sector. The passage of this bill has heated up the political atmosphere in India. The opposition is continuously targeting the Modi government at the center.
