- New direction planned by Vision 2032
ASCI Vision 2032 Plan : The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) unveiled Vision 2032 at its 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM). It lays out a development plan for the period 2027-2032 with an emphasis on building an infrastructure of credibility in India's advertising ecosystem. (ASCI Vision 2032 Plan)
Onion Price Rise : What's going on? Govt not able to control the price, onion will cry again… Selling at 70 rupees per kg in the market
The ad ecosystem is moving faster than traditional security measures, whether due to shrinking review times, the nature of different means of monitoring, or creators changing control mechanisms. At times like these, protecting credibility, explaining it and sustaining that momentum to a large extent is now the key. The risks facing brands are part of a broader credibility issue, where sometimes cynicism takes over the original conversation, while consumers demand evidence and concrete explanations. Ads are now also being pulled into larger social debates such as public health, online safety and children's health.
The advertising ecosystem needs to be ready for change
Vision 2032 acknowledges the period of great evolution for the advertising sector, which is witnessing revolutionary changes such as artificial intelligence (AI), as well as major changes such as personalized communication, retail media and new digital formats. While traditional self-regulation remains the focus of ASCI's work, the organization is looking to expand its preventive role through policy, research, education, technology and industry capacity building.
As part of this plan, ASCI plans to establish three Centers of Excellence covering Law and Policy, Responsible AI Innovation in Advertising, and Creator Proficiency and Credibility.
● The ASCI Legal and Policy Forum will bring industry, legal experts, regulators, academics and consumer representatives together to discuss emerging issues that require regulatory clarity, interpretation or policy development in the advertising sector. The forum will also support research, policy discussions, mentoring and industry training.
● The ASCI Center for Responsible Innovation in AI in Advertising will focus on the responsible use of AI and innovation in the areas of creative development, targeting, personalization, influencer marketing and consumer engagement. The center will develop guidance, as well as research, on synthetic media, AI-generated claims, autonomous decision-making (agentic decision-making) and all other emerging areas that impact consumers' ability to make informed choices.
● The ASCI Center for Creator Excellence and Trust will connect with the rapidly growing creator ecosystem to focus on professional standards and training, creator certification, disclosure and compliance, as well as research. The Board of Directors has re-elected the current Chairman Sudhanshu Vats for an additional term to guide these important initiatives. S Subramanianeshwar will continue as the Vice-President, while Paritosh Joshi will continue as the Honorary Treasurer.
Major regulatory challenges
Commenting on the occasion, ASCI President Sudhanshu Vats said, “Given the pace at which the advertising sector in India is evolving, we face huge regulatory challenges. AI, creators, different platforms and personalization are all reshaping the way brands reach out to audiences. My main focus is to ensure that ASCI's Vision 2032 becomes a reality. The three centers of excellence that we intend to set up in the coming months are critical to ASCI's journey. The board is focused on ensuring that the organization's capabilities expand at the pace of the ecosystem that ASCI regulates.”
A valuable contribution to the development of the ecosystem
ASCI Vice President S. Subramanianeshwar said, “Today's advertising sector has many more stakeholders than ever before and Vision 2032 ensures that all of them are on board. These centers of excellence that we have envisioned go beyond the traditional elements of the advertising ecosystem and allow for and require broader engagement of multiple stakeholders. This ensures that the expanding advertising ecosystem is effectively linked to self-regulatory practices and contributes significantly to ecosystem development.”
Continued emphasis on thought leadership
The ASCI Academy will continue to focus on training, consumer education and thought leadership, including the Trust in Advertising Index, training initiatives for industry and students, research partnerships, consumer education initiatives and ASCI AdTrust IP as future initiatives.
ASCI's existing Grievance Redressal Mechanism will continue to investigate consumer complaints, while strengthening priority categories, new streams of advertisements and a suo moto monitoring department. ASCI's complaints department is also exploring options for using various AI technologies to enhance its monitoring capabilities.
Through Vision 2032, ASCI aims to expand self-regulatory authority by placing credibility in advertising at the center of its long-term agenda, as well as strengthen its role in policy, research, education, technology and ecosystem engagement.
