Ashwini Vaishnav flagged off Bengaluru-Mumbai Express train, said- Vande Bharat sleeper service will start soon
New Delhi, 17 May. Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav virtually flagged off the Bengaluru-Mumbai Express train today. This initiative is expected to further strengthen rail connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra. Minister of State for Railways Shri V. Somanna and many public representatives and senior officials participated in the program through video conference.
Karnataka-Maharashtra connectivity will get new strength
Ashwini Vaishnav in her address said that this new express train will further strengthen the connectivity between South India and West India. He said that in recent years, the pace of investment and projects in the railway sector has increased, due to which the infrastructure in the states is developing rapidly. On this occasion, he announced that Vande Bharat Sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai will be started soon. This service will become a new option for fast, comfortable and modern rail travel for passengers.

Large scale redevelopment under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
According to the Railway Ministry, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 61 stations are being redeveloped in Karnataka at a cost of Rs 2,160 crore, out of which nine stations are already ready. Redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantonment station is underway at a cost of Rs 485 crore and redevelopment of Yesvantpur station is underway at a cost of Rs 367 crore.
Rapid expansion of railway network in Karnataka
The Railway Minister said that since 2014, about 1,750 km of new railway lines have been laid in Karnataka. Along with this, electrification work has also been completed in many sections, making the state’s rail network modern and more efficient.

Fast pace of work on Bengaluru suburban railway project
Work is ongoing on all four corridors of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project. Land acquisition in the Baiyappanahalli–Chikkabanavara and Healalige–Rajanukunte corridors has been completed and station construction is underway. This project will play an important role in connecting major areas of Bengaluru like Electronic City, Marathahalli and Hebbal.
Vande Bharat and expansion of bullet train network
Currently 12 pairs of Vande Bharat trains are running in Karnataka. Apart from this, the Bullet Train Corridor connecting Bengaluru to Hyderabad and Chennai has also been approved. The government aims to develop a comprehensive high-speed rail network connecting major cities.
Record investment in railway budget and infrastructure
Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna said that Karnataka has got a record railway budget of Rs 7,748 crore this year. He said that Karnataka is moving towards almost 100% electrification due to thousands of kilometers of new railway lines and electrification works in the state.
