Asian Games 2026: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the women's 75 kg weight category in the Asian Games 2026. In the final, Lovlina defeated Chinese boxer Bao Jiayi by a unanimous decision of 5-0. This is India's 12th gold medal in these Asian Games.
Last time silver, this time gold
Lovlina reached the final of the Asian Games for the second consecutive time. Last time he had to be satisfied with a silver medal after losing in the final. This time he put that experience behind him and defeated Bao Jiayi with a balance of patience and aggression.
In both the semi-final and final matches, Lovlina started relatively slow and made her strategy effective as the match progressed. In the semi-finals, she defeated the boxer from Kazakhstan and made it to the finals.
Changed strategy against aggressive Bao
In the final, Bao Jiayi looked aggressive from the beginning. In such a situation, Lovlina fought strategically instead of hastily. He took his time in the clinch and counter-attacked at the right moments.
As the match progressed, Lovlina took the lead. After this, he maintained his lead and avoided Bao's attacks to keep the match in his favor. In the end all five judges gave the verdict in favor of Lovlina and the Indian boxer captured the gold medal.
Second Indian female boxer after Mary Kom
With this gold, Lovlina Borgohain has become the second female boxer from India to win a gold medal in the Asian Games. Before her, Mary Kom had won the gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games.
Lovlina has also achieved a special achievement by winning both gold and silver medals in the Asian Games. She has become one of the prominent Indian boxers to have won both medals at the Asian Games level in women's boxing. Mary Kom had earlier won bronze medal in 2010 and gold medal in 2014.
The most special gift received on 29th birthday
This victory is also special for Lovlina Borgohain because she is celebrating her 29th birthday on Friday. In such a situation, the gold of Asian Games became a memorable gift on his birthday.
Winning the gold medal for the country on the podium on the same day she is celebrating her birthday has become one of the memorable moments of Lovlina's career.
