In May alone, Vietnam’s largest island off the southern province of An Giang welcomed 165,000 foreign tourists, up 8% year-on-year, according to a report from the province’s Department of Tourism.
It attracted 4.76 million tourists between January and May, up 34% year-on-year and meeting over half of this year’s target of 8.5 million tourists, up from a record number 8.1 million last year.
International arrivals to Phu Quoc have surged in recent months, driven by a combination of improved accessibility, expanding tourism infrastructure, and visa exemption for foreign visitors.
Foreign travelers arriving at Phu Quoc International Airport are now required to submit their personal information online before entering Vietnam, as authorities expand the country’s pre-arrival information system.
The requirement took effect on June 1 and travelers must complete the declaration through the official portal before departure.
The system, which was first piloted at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on April 15, is designed to accelerate immigration procedures, reduce congestion at border checkpoints and improve the processing of inbound passengers.
Phu Quoc will be turned into a world-class destination for tourism and high-end services as it prepares to host the APEC summit in 2027, according to An Giang Province’s master plan for 2021-2030.
