New Delhi. Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee entered the world of cinema at a very young age and quickly made her own identity. Moushumi, who started acting in her teens with the Bengali film Balika Vadhu, later worked in many memorable films in Hindi and Bengali cinema. However, his personal life has been as interesting as his film journey. Moushumi, who married at a young age, now advises her daughter and today's young generation not to rush into relationships and marriage.
During the conversation at Jagran Film Festival 2026, Moushumi also spoke openly about her daughter Megha Mukherjee. She told that she tells her daughter that liking someone or having a boyfriend in life is a different thing but it is not necessary to marry that person. In this advice of Moushumi, the emphasis is on understanding the relationship and taking one's own decisions. She also asked young women to be cautious and take decisions as per their discretion as per the circumstances.
Referring to the stress of today's young generation, Moushumi said that society has changed a lot with time. According to him, girls are told about the responsibilities of home and in-laws since childhood but boys should also be prepared for domestic responsibilities. He believes that one should do things of one's choice in life but nothing should be excessive. If a mistake is made then one should learn from it and not repeat it again.
While narrating the story of her marriage, Moushumi had mentioned a very emotional incident. After the success of Balika Vadhu, many relationships started coming for him. During this time, the health of one of his sick aunts was very bad. It is said that her aunt was in a serious stage of cancer and she wished that she could see Moushumi's marriage. Aunt had expressed her wish by holding the hand of Moushumi's future father-in-law Hemant Kumar. After this, circumstances changed rapidly and within about a month Moushumi got married to Jayant Mukherjee.
Moushumi also continued her film journey with her marriage at a very young age. In the 1970s, she became one of the famous actresses of Hindi cinema. His acting in films like Anurag Roti Kapda Aur Makaan Benam Swarg Narak Manzil Angoor and Swayamvar was liked by the audience. He also worked with big artists like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Jitendra, Vinod Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar.
Today, at the age of 70, when Moushumi looks back at her life, her experiences reveal a different perspective on relationships and freedom. He says that the new generation should not run their lives only according to the expectations of others. They should take their decisions thoughtfully and learn from every experience.
