Using another bank’s ATM to withdraw cash is convenient, but customers may have to pay a fee once they exhaust their monthly free transaction limit. For regular savings account holders, major banks including SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Bank of Baroda currently charge up to ₹23 plus GST for a financial transaction beyond the applicable free limit.

The free transaction limit and charges, however, can vary depending on the type of account, debit card and whether the ATM is located in a metro or non-metro centre.

SBI ATM withdrawal charges

For SBI savings accounts, customers get three free transactions at other bank ATMs in six metro centres Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad  and five free transactions at other centres.

After the free limit is exhausted, SBI charges ₹21 plus GST for each cash withdrawal at another bank’s ATM. For non-financial transactions, such as balance enquiries, the charge is ₹10 plus GST. These rates are part of SBI’s revised ATM charges effective February 1, 2025.

However, SBI salary package accounts and certain other account categories can have different or unlimited free transaction benefits. Customers should therefore check the applicable charges for their specific account.

ICICI Bank ATM withdrawal charges

ICICI Bank savings account holders can make up to five transactions per month at other bank ATMs, with a maximum of three free transactions in the six metro locations.

Once the free limit is crossed, ICICI Bank charges ₹23 plus GST per financial transaction, including cash withdrawals. The charge for a non-financial transaction is ₹8.50 plus GST.

At ICICI Bank’s own ATMs, the first five financial transactions are free, after which the bank charges ₹23 per transaction.

Axis Bank ATM withdrawal charges

Axis Bank currently charges ₹23 per domestic cash withdrawal transaction beyond the applicable free monthly limit for savings account debit cards. The bank’s fee schedule also lists ₹10 for a domestic non-financial transaction, such as a balance enquiry, after the free limit. GST is applicable on these charges.

For regular savings accounts, Axis Bank provides three free transactions at other bank ATMs in the six metro locations and five in other locations, with financial and non-financial transactions counted towards the limit.

Bank of Baroda ATM withdrawal charges

Bank of Baroda allows three free transactions at other bank ATMs in metro locations and five in non-metro locations for applicable savings accounts.

After the free off-us ATM limit is exhausted, Bank of Baroda charges ₹23 per financial transaction, while a non-financial transaction costs ₹11. GST is applicable over and above these charges. The ₹23 financial transaction charge has been effective since May 1, 2025.

How much will one ATM withdrawal actually cost?

Since GST is charged on these fees, a ₹23 ATM charge becomes ₹27.14 after 18% GST.

For SBI’s ₹21 charge, the total works out to ₹24.78 including 18% GST.

So, after exhausting the free monthly quota, customers of these banks could typically pay:

  • SBI: ₹21 + GST = ₹24.78
  • ICICI Bank: ₹23 + GST = ₹27.14
  • Axis Bank: ₹23 + GST = ₹27.14
  • Bank of Baroda: ₹23 + GST = ₹27.14

What counts towards the free ATM limit?

The free quota generally includes both financial and non-financial transactions when using another bank’s ATM. A cash withdrawal is a financial transaction, while activities such as balance enquiry and mini statements are generally non-financial transactions.

The six metro centres used for the three-transaction limit are Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Customers should also remember that account type and debit-card variant can change the applicable limits and fees. Some salary, premium and special accounts may offer additional or unlimited free transactions.

For customers using another bank’s ATM, ₹23 + GST is the current cash-withdrawal charge at ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Bank of Baroda after the applicable free limit, while SBI’s current official schedule lists ₹21 + GST for regular savings accounts.
