JP Nadda has made serious allegations against Rahul Gandhi regarding the opposition rally in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. He said that efforts are being made to spread anarchy in the country. At the same time, the opposition has raised questions regarding the election process and the rights of voters.
New Delhi: BJP and Congress have come face to face regarding the INDIA alliance rally organized on Sunday, November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Union Minister JP Nadda targeted Rahul Gandhi and alleged that the opposition is trying to create unrest in the country in the name of democracy. Nadda also raised questions on the date chosen for the rally. On the other hand, the opposition says that its protest is against the alleged irregularities in the voter list and the functioning of the Election Commission.
JP Nadda made serious allegations against Rahul Gandhi
Amidst the rally of opposition parties in Delhi, Union Minister JP Nadda has raised questions on the politics of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi and his allies are trying to create such an environment in the country through which pressure can be put on the elected government.
Nadda presented his point by dividing Rahul Gandhi's politics into four phases. According to him, first people are misled by spreading wrong information. After this, tension is created through demonstrations and uproar on the streets. In the third phase, attempts are made to harm economic activities and in the fourth phase, attempts are made to destabilize the government with the help of external forces.
The Union Minister claimed that the current political activities of the opposition are part of this strategy. However, these are political allegations of Nadda. The opposition has described its movement as related to electoral transparency and democratic rights.
'India is not a banana republic'
Addressing Rahul Gandhi, JP Nadda said that India is not a banana republic, where anyone can create an environment of violence or change of power as per their wish.
Nadda said that India's democracy is based on strong institutions and constitutional system. According to him, the people have the right to change the government and this is done through elections.
He accused the opposition that in the name of protecting democracy, people are being brought out on the streets, while there are political motives behind it.
BJP says that political protest is a democratic right, but law and order should not be affected in its name. At the same time, Congress is continuously saying that it will continue its protest on the issue of Constitution and fair elections.
Questions on Congress regarding the date of November 1st
JP Nadda also objected to November 1 being chosen for the rally. He targeted Congress by linking it to the memories of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Nadda said that the violence against the Sikh community in November 1984 is a painful chapter in the history of the country. At such a time, he does not find it appropriate for Congress to organize a political protest.
BJP organized a separate protest march in Delhi on this issue. In this, the involvement of party leaders including Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has come to light.
The purpose of this demonstration in West Delhi is said to be to remember the victims of 1984 riots and to register protest against the Congress.
Demand for resignation of Chief Election Commissioner raised in opposition rally
On the other hand, INDIA alliance has described the Ramlila Maidan rally as a movement related to voters' rights. Opposition parties allege that names of many people have been wrongly removed in the process of Special Intensive Revision or SIR of the voter list.
Congress and its allies are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Besides, the demand for voting through ballot paper instead of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) has also been raised.
However, the Election Commission has rejected the allegations of political bias. The Commission says that there is a system in place to resolve complaints of wrongful deletion of names from the voter list and to include the names of eligible voters.
Rahul Gandhi had appealed to the people to participate in this demonstration. Opposition leaders say that the purpose of the movement is to maintain people's confidence in the election process.
10 thousand security personnel in Delhi, strict surveillance in Ramlila Maidan
In view of the opposition rally and separate demonstration of BJP, security arrangements have been increased in Delhi. There is news of deployment of about 10 thousand police and paramilitary forces in different parts of Central and New Delhi.
More than four thousand security personnel have been arranged in and around Ramlila Maidan. The ground has been divided into 14 security zones and more than 200 CCTV cameras have been installed for surveillance.
Delhi Police has given permission to the organizers for the rally with certain conditions. The program will have to end by 5 pm. Restrictions have also been imposed on marching outside the designated area along with crowd control, entry and exit arrangements.
This dispute between the BJP and the opposition has again brought the role of the Election Commission, voter list and methods of political protest under discussion. Both sides are presenting their respective views. Now the focus will be on what further steps the opposition takes after the rally and what is the response to its demands related to the Election Commission.
