What do we see in the Backpay trailer?
The Backpay trailer shows two estranged friends, Steve and Murphy, coming together with a plan after a long-buried debt involving powerful local politician Peter Freeman, played by Jason Pennell, resurfaces.
Steve and Murphy’s plan initially seems like a clean extortion job: hold Peter hostage at his lake house and empty his safe before releasing sensitive material about his past. However, the trailer then highlights a twist involving a dark past from which Steve, Murphy, and Peter are trying to run, resulting in old wounds reopening and loyalties getting weak.
Further, Steve and Murphy’s exit strategy gets complicated when Peter’s friend Ximena, played by Golden Madison, appears as a witness to the crime. The two friends soon find themselves in a race against the clock and a moral reckoning.
According to the official description, Backpay’s story “cuts to the heart of brotherhood, fatherhood, betrayal, and the razor-thin line between justice and vengeance.”
The ensemble cast of the movie also features Seled Calderon (Undertone). Producers on the project include Gallant and Chris Morsby.
Distributed by Buffalo 8, Backpay will release on October 2, 2026, on various digital platforms including Amazon, Fandango at Home & JaroGO. It will be available on local cable providers like Charter and Cox on the same day.
