Apart from this, due to Gandhi Jayanti and local festivals celebrated in different states, work in bank branches will remain closed for several days. However, the impact of these holidays will not be uniform across the country. Bank holidays vary according to state and city.
Apart from the regular holidays of Sunday and second-fourth Saturday, banks will also remain closed on many regional festivals in October 2026. In such a situation, if you have to go to the bank branch to get some important work done, then first check the date of the holiday.

2 October: Banks will remain closed across the country due to Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
4th October: Due to it being Sunday, bank branches will remain closed across the country.
10 October: Banks will remain closed as it is the second Saturday of the month.
11 October: There will be weekly holiday on Sunday.
17 October: Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Maha Saptami in Agartala, Tripura.
18 October: Due to it being Sunday, there will be a holiday in bank branches across the country.
19 October: There will be holiday in many states and banking centers due to festivals like Dussehra, Mahashtami, Mahanavami, Ayudha Puja and Durga Puja.
20 October: Banks will remain closed in some states due to Vijayadashami, Mahanavami, Ayudha Puja and Durga Puja.
21st October: There will be holiday in many banking centers on the occasion of Vijayadashami and Durga Puja.
22 and 23 October: Bank branches will remain closed in Sikkim due to Durga Puja/Dasai.
24 October: Due to it being the fourth Saturday of the month, banks will remain closed across the country.
25 October: There will be a holiday in bank branches across the country due to Sunday.
26 October: Banks will remain closed in some states due to Lakshmi Puja, Accession Day and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.
29 October: There will be holiday in bank branches in Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Karva Chauth.
31st October: Banks will remain closed in Gujarat due to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.
Some holidays on these dates will be applicable only to banking centers in particular states or cities. Therefore, before going to the bank on a particular day, definitely check the holidays of your city.
You can do online banking even during holidays
The closure of a bank branch does not mean that all banking services will stop. Customers can use digital services like internet banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATM. Transferring money, paying bills and many other common tasks can be done online.
However, for KYC, document submission or some special branch related work, you may have to wait for the bank to open. Therefore, if there is any important work related to the bank in October, then it would be better to plan your holidays by looking at the holiday dates in advance.
