Calcutta HC grants bail to Milan Pradhan: Big legal news has come out from Nandigram assembly constituency, which is always the center of discussion in West Bengal politics. Congress Party candidate Milan Pradhan has got a big relief from the Calcutta High Court. The court has accepted his interim bail plea and issued an order to release him temporarily. This relief given to the Congress candidate amid the election atmosphere has come as a great support for the party workers and supporters.
Important decision of Calcutta High Court
This entire case was heard in the single bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh in the Calcutta High Court. After hearing the specifics of the case and the arguments of both the sides, the court gave its decision to grant interim relief to Milan Pradhan. The court made it clear that Milan Pradhan will be released on two personal bonds of Rs 10,000 each. As soon as this decision came, there was a wave of happiness in the Congress camp because the candidate's stay in jail amidst election activities was overshadowing the party's campaign.
Strict conditions fixed with bail
The court has definitely given relief to the Congress candidate, but along with it it has also set some very strict rules and conditions. Under the court order, Milan Pradhan will have to register his current mobile number with the local police station, so that the investigating officer can contact him if needed. Along with this, the court has also made it clear that this interim bail will be valid only till October 20. According to the instructions issued by the court, Milan Pradhan will have to surrender himself in Haldia court on 21st October.
Reason for arrest and old cases
Milan Pradhan's legal troubles have very old roots. According to police records, six different criminal cases have been registered against him since 2007. Of these, two cases are going on in Contai court, while four cases are pending in Haldia court. Recently, the police had taken him into custody on the basis of serious allegations of murder involved in these old cases. Before coming to the High Court, the lower court had directed to send him to judicial custody till October 7, against which he had approached the High Court.
High Court made important comment
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh also made serious comments in his order on the timing of the police action. The court paid special attention to the fact that Milan Pradhan was arrested when he had already filed his nomination papers. During the hearing, the court also found that the state government's side could not present any concrete document or evidence to prove that the police had caught him in these cases at any time since 2007. The court took a serious view of the fact that no concrete action was taken for so many years and the sudden arrest at the time of elections.
Wife had made allegations of conspiracy
When Milan Pradhan was arrested by the police, his wife Arpita Pradhan had openly raised questions on the administration. She had described her husband's arrest as completely politically motivated and a bundle of false allegations. Arpita Pradhan said that her husband has been implicated without any solid basis so that he cannot contest the elections. He had also said that those who torture innocent people by making false allegations against them should also be given strict punishment under the law. Arpita claimed that her husband had not done any wrong and the truth would prevail.
Election equations will be affected
Nandigram seat is considered very sensitive and important politically in the entire country. In such a situation, the arrest of the official Congress candidate had suddenly increased the political temperature of the area. Now, due to this interim bail granted till October 20, Milan Pradhan will be able to go to his area and take part in the election campaign. Although due to the obligation to surrender on 21st October, their legal problems have not ended completely, but this freedom for a few days will definitely give a new impetus to their campaign.
