The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is confident that the Asia Cup trophies won by India’s men’s and women’s teams will eventually reach its headquarters in Mumbai, though it has not set a timeline for their return.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the trophies will ultimately be brought to the board’s office at the Wankhede Stadium. “I will not give you a timeline, but I can assure you that both the trophies will come up and land up at this BCCI head office at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai,” Saikia said after the BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting on Friday.
The issue follows India’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophies from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi during the presentation ceremonies. The men’s team had declined to receive the trophy after winning the 2025 Asia Cup, while the women’s team followed the same stance after defeating Sri Lanka in the 2026 final in Dubai.
The women’s team won the final by 72 runs to claim the Asia Cup title, but did not participate in the official trophy presentation because Naqvi was present. BCCI had communicated its position to the ACC ahead of the final, according to Saikia.
The two trophies are currently at the ACC headquarters in Dubai. Saikia’s comments indicate that the BCCI expects both pieces of silverware to eventually be brought to Mumbai, although no specific date has been announced.
The development comes amid continuing tensions surrounding cricketing engagements between India and Pakistan, with Naqvi serving as both ACC president and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
