New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for five posts in the Junior Men's Selection Committee. The board aims to focus on the development of young players and strengthening the bench strength of Indian cricket by restructuring the existing panel.
According to BCCI, interested candidates can apply till 5 pm on September 5, 2026. The selection process will be followed by personal interview of shortlisted candidates after screening.
Who are the current junior selection committee?
The new committee will replace the existing panel. The current junior men's selection committee is headed by former Tamil Nadu cricketer S. Sharath is doing. He is accompanied by members Ranadeb Bose (East Zone), Harvinder Singh Sodhi (North Zone), Pathik Patel (West Zone) and Krishna Mohan (Central Zone).
The current committee was formed in September 2021. Former Karnataka wicketkeeper Tilak Nayudu became the chief junior selector in 2023, as S. Sharath was included in the senior men's selection panel. After this, in 2025, Sharath again took the responsibility of the chief selector of the junior selection committee.
Responsibility of selection of players till under-22
The responsibility of the new junior selection committee will not be limited to just the Under-19 team. The committee will select teams for players in the age group up to Under-22.
These will include coaching camps along with selection of junior teams of different formats for domestic and international competitions to be held in India and abroad.
An important objective of the committee will be to create a strong talent pool of young players and develop bench strength for the future Indian team.
What is the qualification to become a selector?
BCCI has set some important eligibility criteria for the members of the Junior Selection Committee. According to:
- The candidate must have played at least 25 first-class matches.
- At least 5 years must have passed since retirement from cricket.
- Candidates who have completed a total tenure of 5 years in any Cricket Committee of BCCI will not be eligible.
- Shortlisted candidates will have to undergo personal interview after screening.

Along with selecting the team of players, the members of the Junior Selection Committee will also have to perform many other responsibilities. These include vetting the support staff, monitoring the development of players and appointing captains for different tours.
Apart from this, the selectors will also have to work with senior and former players to increase awareness among the youth against drugs, betting and match fixing.
India won two U-19 World Cups during the tenure of the current panel.
During the nearly five-year tenure of the current junior selection panel, the performance of the Indian junior cricket team has been excellent. India won the 2022 and 2026 Men's Under-19 World Cups.
In 2022, India won the title under the captaincy of Yash Dhull, while in 2026, the Indian team became champion under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre.
