Beach officer flies from Da Nang to Phu Quoc to return wedding ring to Portuguese tourists

The couple had lost the ring while swimming at My Khe Beach around noon on Oct. 19, just a day before their scheduled flight to Phu Quoc.

On the advice of locals, they reached out to Phan Thanh Trinh for help.

Trinh used a metal detector to sweep the area.

Despite large waves and constantly shifting sands, he managed to find the ring on the afternoon of Oct. 21 after a two-day search.

By that time, the couple were already in Phu Quoc and preparing to fly home.

Unwilling to alter their travel plans, they offered to cover Trinh’s round-trip airfare so he could hand-deliver the keepsake.

The management initially considered asking a travel agency in Phu Quoc to deliver the ring, but then dispatched Trinh to hand it over in person on Oct. 22, ensuring its safety and leaving the visitors with a memorable experience in Vietnam.

It noted that helping visitors recover lost property is a routine duty for beach order personnel.

Trinh hoped his efforts would help showcase Da Nang as a friendly and hospitable destination.

In the first nine months of the year, Da Nang received nearly 16 million overnight visitors, including 7.7 million foreigners, up nearly 29% year-on-year.

Their accommodation and dining spending was nearly VND53 trillion (US$2.04 billion), an increase of over 26%, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
