Bhopal. Even on Sunday, in Bhopal’s Neelam Park, candidates are adamant on their demand of increasing the posts in teacher recruitment. The candidates are protesting indefinitely regarding their demands. Narendra Rajput of Biaora has started a fast unto death. Rajput has also stopped drinking water. They say that they will continue to sit on strike until their demands are met.
Many candidates of the state were preparing to become teachers for years, but their demands have not been fulfilled yet. Candidates are demanding increase of 25 thousand posts in class 3 along with 3 thousand in each subject in class 2. Along with this, candidates are also demanding second counseling for the increased posts. A large number of women candidates also participated during the demonstration. Schools are being closed in the name of merger
School Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has launched a campaign against the closure of government schools. The committee is protesting against the merger. The people of the agitating committee say that every month 13 schools are being closed in the country. The government is closing or merging government schools through different schemes and names. In 2016, there were about 1.21 lakh government schools in Madhya Pradesh, which have now reduced to about 90 thousand. 4731 schools have been closed across the country in 2025-26.
More than half of these 2426 have been closed in Madhya Pradesh only. Where government schools are being closed, private schools are opening indiscriminately. 51 thousand private schools have been opened. There is only one teacher in 1 lakh government schools of the country. According to ASER report, 18 percent do not have drinking water. There is lack of toilets in 26 percent schools. There is no provision of toilets for girl students in 58 percent government schools. 38 percent schools are without buildings.
10 percent of schools do not have electricity. At the same time, computers have not been used in 5 percent schools. Protestors claim the reality is worse than this. He said that government schools should not be closed in the name of closure, merger, one school-one campus, CM Rise or other schemes. The government should provide buildings, laboratories, toilets, drinking water and other basic facilities in schools.
