Opposition parties have started a meeting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged vote theft and irregularities in SIR. The opposition parties are preparing for a major agitation on these issues. The meeting is being held at the Constitution Club in Delhi, attended by several alliance leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah. Akhilesh Yadav did not attend today’s meeting amid ongoing tension with the Congress over seat sharing. He sent two of his MPs in his place. Kejriwal also withdrew from the seat. Stalin was also not present. The opposition is preparing to introduce impeachment motions against Gyanesh Kumar in both houses of Parliament.
The India Alliance meeting is over. After the meeting, the Indi Bloc announced a major agitation against the Election Commission and CEC. Mallikarjun Kharge has released the complete datesheet. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi launched a major attack on Gyanesh Kumar, as well as Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah. Rahul asked why CEC Gyanesh Kumar was given “lifetime legal immunity”. He said he will not spare those who attack democracy.
After attending the Bharat Gatbandhan meeting, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awad said, “Remove the EVMs and bring back the ballot papers. I am telling you about the situation in Maharashtra. At 12 noon, 6% polled. At 2 pm, 9% polled. At 3 pm, 30% polled. At 5 pm, 39% polled. At 7 pm, 51% polled. And then, it 64% polled… and many states said the same happened in their states… and Gyanesh Kumar is the only person, or a unique person in India, who has been given so much security and so much freedom. No legal action can be taken against Gyanesh Kumar.
