Bharat Taxi…, neither the customer is happy, nor the driver, where is the problem?

Ola, Uber, Rapido…. These three companies dominate the Indian cab market. Most people use these apps to book a bike or car. These three are private companies. The government had launched a cooperative platform ‘Bharat Taxi’ only to control the increasing interference of the private market. This project, which started on February 5, has now reached its fifth month.

The success with which this cab service app was launched may not have been achieved. Till now, Bharat Taxi has been downloaded by more than 10 lakh people on Play Store, more than 35 thousand people have also given 4.2 rating. Most of the people are disliking the apps on different platforms and are trusting the already established cab companies.

Why was Bharat Taxi started?

Bharat Taxi was formally launched by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on 5 February 2025. It is India’s first cooperative model ride service, which is more affordable for drivers and customers than companies like Uber and Ola. Home Minister Amit Shah says that private companies deduct huge commission from drivers, delay payment and suspend the driver without hearing just on the complaint of the passenger.

Bharat Taxi operates on a zero commission model, in which drivers keep the full fare and can also become owners of the platform. Drivers can buy shares in the platform and then get a majority of the profits, about 80 percent. This facility is for bikes, autos and four wheelers.

What is the situation after 5 months of launch?

So far 7 lakh drivers have been registered as drivers on Bharat Taxi. Less rides are being booked every day. This app is currently in discussion only in Delhi, NCR and Gujarat. It is expected that it will start running in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Kolkata this month.

What are the drivers saying?

Khabargaon also talked about the difficulties of the drivers. Bhikam Kumar is a rider. Ride a bike. He says that rides are available on Ola, Rapido and Uber but very few people come on Bharat Taxi. If a driver is getting more than 10 bookings a day on a private app, then not even 5 people book on Bharat Taxi in a day.

Ravi Kumar also told about similar problems. He has Swift Dezire car. He says that less people are booking on Bharat Taxi now. A few rides are available during the day. Earning per kilometer is slightly less. Incentives are less and there is no wallet facility. Right now this company is in its initial stage, there may be more to come.

What are travelers saying?

Dinesh Kashyap’s office is in Bangli Market Delhi. He lives in Mayur Vihar. Cabs them every day. He books Bharat Taxi first but no driver accepts the ride. Sometimes you get a ride by chance. There are problems in the timing of 10 to 7. Sumit Kumar also has a similar experience. He often has work in Chandni Chowk. He has also booked service on Bharat Taxi many times but many times he did not get the ride, many times the driver did not even come.

What does the government think about Bharat Taxi?

The government wants to expand Bharat Taxi to cities across the country. The government is calling it cooperative movement. Preparations are on to make it a profitable deal for both the driver and the passenger, but till now the expectations with which it started do not seem to be being fulfilled.

Why is Bharat Taxi not succeeding?

There is a lot of anger among the people regarding Bharat Taxi App. If we look at the reviews of Google Play Store, many users have written about the app that it seems that it has been made by a trainee.

‘There is no facility to choose another location in the app. Wherever you are, the same location comes automatically. There is also no option to book cabs for others. The correct location is visible on the map, but as soon as you click on Next, your current location appears.

‘Drivers do not come even after approving the ride’

Many people wrote in their reviews on Play Store that the drivers accept the ride, but do not come for 10-20 minutes and then cancel. In this, the charge is deducted for the passenger, but no action is taken against the driver.

On cancellation after a long wait, only the location is asked again. There are complaints of cheating and extra charges in the fair.

‘Charges are shown separately from booking’

Many people have complained that the policies regarding fair are also not clear. Many users said that a rate is visible at the time of booking, but after the ride is over, more money is deducted. Vivek Chauhan writes that he booked a ride from the airport for Rs 908, when the journey ended, the driver asked for Rs 1180.

When I booked the cab it was showing Rs 266. When the ride ended, Rs 347 was deducted. There is complete lack of transparency, this is the biggest issue.

‘Bike service is also expensive’

One person wrote that the ride in the bike taxi was being shown for Rs 189, when the ride ended, Rs 284 was charged. Toll charge was added on non-toll routes. Bike rides are also less accepted by the riders.

Questions are also being raised on customer support

The condition of customer support is said to be worse. Even after complaining, no response is received for several days or weeks. It is very difficult to get a refund or resolve the issue. It has been seen many times that drivers do not use AC and do not know the route.

AC did not work in summer and the condition of the cab was very bad. It has become difficult to get a ride in busy areas. Earlier it was working fine, now booking is not happening.

Customers are not getting benefits

Some people have complained that passengers are not getting the benefit of zero commission. Even between 10 to 7, the charge is the same as other apps. The support team only asks for details on mail, but does not solve the problem.
