Big action against electricity theft in UP, now meters will be installed on poles

News Desk: To stop electricity theft in UP, the Electricity Department has started preparations to implement a new system. In the electricity theft areas of Moradabad district, now smart meters will be installed on electric poles instead of inside houses or at the gate.

100 villages and 8 localities marked

The department has identified about 100 villages and 8 sensitive areas of the city, where more complaints of electricity theft have been received. Teams of the department are conducting surveys in these areas and collecting information about those consumers who have not yet installed smart meters.

Old meters will also be shifted on poles

In the houses where smart meters are already installed, they can also be removed from the house as per the need and installed on the poles. The department believes that if there is a meter near the house, some people try to steal electricity by tampering with the cable.

After installing the meter on the pole, monitoring the power line leading to the house will become easier. If there is any bypass or other problem in the cable, the departmental team will be able to catch it quickly. According to the electricity department, the main objective of this step is to reduce electricity theft and make the electricity supply system more transparent. After completion of the survey, the work of installing smart meters in the identified areas will be expedited.
