Big blow for Team India: Bumrah out of India-Sri Lanka Test series!

New Delhi, 03 August 2026: The Indian cricket team’s next international fixture is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Team India is scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka on 4 August, but they have suffered a major blow before the tour: star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the entire series. According to reports, the team management does not want to rush his return and has therefore decided to rest him for the series. Although the BCCI included him in the team, it was clarified that his decision to participate will be subject to medical clearance.

The first match of the Test series between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Galle from 15 August. Before that, Team India will play a three-day warm-up match against a Sri Lankan XI in Colombo from 7 August. Shubman Gill and his team will leave for Colombo on 4 June. This series is extremely important for the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, so the absence of a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah is a big blow.

Bumrah not fully recovered

Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from a left knee injury and is currently at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. According to reports, the BCCI medical team has advised him not to return to the field for the time being; they want him to rest until he is fully recovered. However, there has been no official statement from the BCCI in this regard at the time of writing.
