KNews Desk: State Bank of India (SBI) has changed the limit of free transactions from ATMs of other banks for its salary package account holders. The new rule will come into effect from 1 October 2026. Under this, all types of salary package account holders of SBI will get 5 free transactions every month at ATMs of other banks. At present this limit is of 10 transactions. This means that now customers with salary accounts will have to pay additional charges after the limit of free ATM transactions is over.
This change of SBI includes transactions done with SBI debit cards on ATMs of other banks and ADWM i.e. Automated Deposit cum Withdrawal Machine. The monthly limit of 5 free transactions will include both financial and non-financial transactions. In such a situation, if customers use ATM of other banks more than the prescribed limit in a month, they will have to pay additional charges.
For withdrawing cash after the free transaction limit is over, customers will be charged a penalty for every transaction. Rs 23 plus GST Will have to give. Whereas for non-financial transactions Rs 11 plus GST Will be charged. Non-financial transactions may include services like balance check, mini statement. However, salary package account holders doing transactions from SBI's own ATMs will continue to get relief. 10 free transactions are available every month at SBI ATM on salary package accounts. Apart from this, the facility of unlimited free transactions at SBI ATM is also available to salary package account holders. This also includes Shaurya Family Pension Account and SBI RISHTEY Family Savings Account.
At the same time, this change will not affect the number of free monthly transactions for other general accounts other than the salary package account of SBI. These customers will continue to get 5 free transactions every month from ATMs of other banks at all centres. This limit will also be applicable on both financial and non-financial transactions. For general SBI account holders, after the free limit is exhausted, a charge of Rs 23 plus GST is applicable on cash withdrawal and Rs 11 plus GST on non-financial transactions. These charges are applicable from December 1, 2025.
First 5 transactions at ATMs of other banks are free for SBI ATM card holders. Now this change will be especially applicable in the case of salary package account holders from October 1. Earlier there was a classification of different rules based on metro and non-metro centres, but now the same limit will be applicable on all the centres. So if you have a salary package account in SBI and you often withdraw money from other bank's ATM, then from October 1, you will have to keep an eye on your ATM transactions. After completion of 5 free transactions in a month, prescribed fee will have to be paid on every additional transaction.
