New Delhi:Just before the festive season, a big conspiracy to disturb the peace of Punjab has failed. The attempt of Pakistan and foreign forces to create unrest in the state by smuggling weapons from across the border was foiled in time by the Amritsar Rural Police. In this action taken on the basis of intelligence, the police not only recovered a huge consignment of weapons but also caught the smuggler red handed.
According to DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Amritsar Rural Police has recovered AK-47 rifle, its magazine, huge quantity of live cartridges and two very dangerous hand grenades in this action. The recovery of such deadly weapons has also alerted the security agencies, because they could have been used to carry out some major crime.
Wires linked to foreign forces found
In the initial investigation, the entire matter seems to be directly linked to anti-national forces sitting abroad. Police investigation has revealed that the arrested accused was in constant touch with anti-national elements active abroad, and this network was being run on their instructions.

It has also become clear in the investigation that the entire recovered consignment was sent to India after crossing the border from Pakistan. After this important recovery, a case has been registered against the accused at Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar under strict sections of the Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.
At present, the police is interrogating the accused thoroughly, so that the entire forward and backward links of this smuggling network can be ascertained. The police is trying to find out to whom these weapons were to be supplied, and what major crime was planned to be carried out through them. Investigation is also going on to identify other people associated with this entire network.
DGP's blunt warning
Taking a strict stance on this matter, DGP Gaurav Yadav has made it clear that anyone trying to disturb the peace and tranquility of Punjab will not be spared. He said that the state police is fully alert and ready to foil any such conspiracy, and they are keeping a close watch on any activity taking place from across the border.
