Big decision of Central Government, good news for 8 states including UP
New Delhi. Amidst the rising petrol and diesel prices in the country and the global fuel crisis, the central government has taken a big step towards promoting electric vehicles (EV). The government has given approval to eight states including Uttar Pradesh and public sector companies to set up 4800 new EV charging stations. This decision is expected to provide great relief to electric vehicle users.
The government aims to have these charging stations ready within the next six months. For this, an amount of Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned in the first phase. Under the new scheme, charging stations will be installed on national highways, expressways, petrol pumps and public places. This will provide great convenience to electric vehicle drivers traveling long distances.
714 new charging stations will be built in UP
Uttar Pradesh has got a big share in this scheme. A total of 714 new charging stations will be set up in the state, for which Rs 61.33 crore has been sanctioned. With this, better electric vehicle charging facilities will be available on Lucknow, Noida, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra and major expressway routes.
These states also got benefits
Under the scheme, a large number of charging stations will be built in many other states also.
Karnataka: 1243 stations
Rajasthan: 591 stations
Andhra Pradesh: 577 stations
Tamil Nadu: 498 stations
Kerala: 335 stations
Telangana ; 169 stations
Gujarat: 56 stations
Separate budgets have also been approved for all these projects.
Emphasis on EV amid fuel crisis
Amid increasing global tension and fluctuating crude oil prices, the Indian government is now working on a strategy to rapidly promote electric mobility. The expansion of EV vehicles will not only reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, but will also help in reducing pollution. In view of the increasing air pollution in big cities, this step is also considered important from the environmental point of view.
